(1175 -1250), was an Italian mathematician, who was born in Pisa.
His studies provided a basis for writings on arithmetic and algebra in succeeding
centuries. He rediscovered the logarithmic number which is now known as the Fibonacci
sequence or series. The beginning of the sequence is; 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, etc. The Fibonacci series is a progression of numbers in which each number is the sum of the two preceding numbers. For example, 0 + 1=1, 1+2=3, 2+3=5, 3+5=8, 5+8=13, 8+13=21, 13+21=34, etc. The ratio of each number to its lesser part is equal to the ratio of each number to its larger part.
