We put an interesting spin on the traditional product review. Submit your
ideas and suggestions on featured high-tech products, with a focus on how
you would improve the product to create mass appeal. All reviews become part
of The Virtual Product Catalog, our collection of fictitious products that
can be manufactured today by modifying or combining available technology.
You can even vote on which products are most likely to succeed or that you
would purchase if they became available.

HP's "Talking paper clips"
We report a user requirements study of several interfaces for the
playback of sounds from photographs. The study showed that users
liked listening to audiophotos when the sounds are played back from
photographic prints, but as a compliment to playback on a PC.
When handling prints the audio needs to be invoked manually from
the print with a facility to pause the audio during playback.
A handheld audioprint player was then designed to fulfill these
needs, based on an embedded chip in the paper.

General Motor's "Autonomy"
The Autonomy prototype uses four 25-kilowatt electric motors, mounted near the wheels.
This gives it about 140 horsepower and due to the immediate torque provided by
electric propulsion, that’s equivalent to a much larger I.C. engine. It also
allows the vehicle to incorporate a variety of traction enhancing features,
such as all-wheel drive, anti-lock brakes and stability control.
All the necessary electronics are contained within the Autonomy platform
and, in the prototype, they’d all be connected by wire, rather than mechanical
link to the controls the driver operated.

Tablet PC: The Next Generation Windows PC
The Tablet PC will be the most mobile and versatile
computer ever. Tablet PCs will offer long battery life,
light weight, ultra high resolution display, and in some
cases wireless connectivity. Tablets can take the form
of a slate and this allows ease of use in locations such
as on planes or on-site sales calls. Tablet PC size
and versatility will allow one to employ the power
of their mobile computers in more places and more
hours of the day – helping to make workers even more
efficient and effective than ever before.
